The NPE (National Policy on Education) 1986 is given much importance to universlize the Primary Education of Indian Educational System and to provide free and compulsory education to all the children up to 14 year old.

Until the adaption of NPE 1986, the Elementary Education was being helped largly at the National and State levels only by the institutions like NCERT, NUEPA and SCERT. So promote the Primary Education DIETs are established with the special aim of improving the Primary Education through Pre-service and Inservice trainings as mentionad in the NPE (National Policy on Education).
